NRS Audit SME 1.0.2 Diskette Notes
===================                                      ==============

The information on this diskette can be used to install and make use of
the "NRS Audit SME", which is a simple VTAM Session Management Exit
designed to show you what your ACF/VTAM system is up to. It is NRS'
concept of "mainframe shareware", which means that it is available at
no charge provided you do not remove the NRS identifying information and
you do not yourself charge anyone else for it.

If you have any comments about the Audit SME, its functions, etc., please
contact the:

If you really insist on sending along a donation to support this
effort, make your checks payable to NRS (we're suggesting a "material
coverage" donation of $15.00). Alternatively, the folks around the NRS
offices are cookie fans, love new and inventive chili recipes, or
anything that takes a little starch out of the day to day business world.

The Diskette Files
==================
This diskette contains the following MS/DOS type files, which should
be uploaded to your host using an appropriate SEND/RECEIVE type
function (we used Extra! for Windows, but almost anything else will do).

MS/DOS File CMS Filename OS Member Name RECFM LRECL
-----------    ----------------        --------------  -----   -----
COPYRITE       COPYRITE MEMO           DATA(COPYRITE)    F      80
README.TXT     README MEMO             DATA(README)      F      80
NASEXCAA.OBJ   NASEXCAA TEXT           LOAD(NASEXCAA)    F      80
NRSFAX.TXT     NRSFAX MEMO             DATA(NRSFAX)      F      80
NASOPTS.ZAP    NASOPTS ZAP             DATA(NASOPTS)     F      80
NASZAP.EXC     NASZAP EXEC
NAS0023.L38    NAS0023 LIST3820        LIST3820          V     5398
NAS0023.DCF    NAS0023 SCRIPT          DATA(NAS0023)     F      80
NAS0023.L14    NAS0023 1403N6          1403N6            V      86
<ACCESS> contains a StoryBoard presentation of Access
               (enter A:, then CD ACCESS, then ST ACCESS, and enjoy!)

Make sure that when you upload NASEXCAA that you do NOT SPECIFY
ASCII character conversion. This file contains the executable 370
instructions (if you translate them, the execution results will be
unpredictable!). After you've got NASEXCAA uploaded, you'll have to
link it (CMS LKED or OS IEWL) and put it in a library available to
VTAM.

You should specify to "Remove CR/LF" on all files except the
NASEXCAA object code. Do NOT convert ASCII to EBCDIC for NASEXCAA.OBJ,
NAS0023.L14, or NAS0023.L38.

Do NOT upload the Access directory or anything in it (it will
only waste host DASD space).

Documentation
=============
The documentation is in the NAS0023 members (formatted and unformatted)
and we'd encourage you to read it (at least, give a try at printing
some of it, even if you don't have DCF and can't format it).

If you do have DCF (IBM's Document Composition Facility), then simply
execute the SCRIPT formatter with the proper PARMS to format the
document for your local printer.

If you have no success at using any of the documentation, then contact
us and we'll see about sending along hardcopy (sure, some folks still
use that).

Finally -
=========
The NRS Audit SME can be a valuable tool in helping you to determine
what your VTAM system is up to. Naturally, we hope that you discover
enough to be interested in controlling what your Domain is doing
and will request information about our ACCESS product (there it is,
the only plug in the README file!). If you're interested, ask us for
the overview materials to see how a full function SME operates.
Or you can even throw the diskette into a drive again, CHDIR ACCESS,
and then ST ACCESS. This starts up IBM's StoryBoard Live! with
a quick overview of Access (ok, ok, that's two plugs, but who's counting?)

BUT, without regard for any products, etc., please make sure that you
and the appropriate people at your shop know what your VTAM is up to.
We think you'll be a bit surprised at how many other systems you have
connection to (direct and indirect).

Good luck - the NRS Audit SME Author
