NRS6292: S0A8 R15=00007005 RPLAREA Invalid

Friday, April 9, 2004 at 08:33:17 am    Late one evening Network Director suffered a S0A8 abend.

Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 11:55:37 am    Dump forwarded through FTP directly to the NRS zOS sysetm for investigation.

Monday, April 19, 2004 at 03:07:31 am    Dump has been successfully FTPed to the NRS system, but our IPCS does not appear to be able to properly locate the CVT, etc., which will make digging into the S0A8 circumstances difficult (as the abend is not in Director code, but in ISTLUCRP logic).

Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at 02:24:15 am    R15=7005, which indicates that VTAM thought the RPLAREA value was invalid. Still not successful at reading the dump and working to make some progress with the Client.

Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 10:51:56 am    3480 cartridge received and in house. Dump came off of tape successfully and IPCS is processing it just fine in the zOS system.

Monday, May 10, 2004 at 03:49:25 am    Director was in a wait state and S0A8 registers didn't point at anything looking remotely like an RPL (could be the problem, right there). Observed lots (>1,000) RPL Held messages (TND0595 and TND0616) messages over the hours with corresponding Free RPLs in NTWK during garbage collection. I'd speculate we "freed" one of the RPLs during garbage collection that VTAM was going to reference. We could suspend the RPL Garbage Collection, but then we'd have to consider periodic restarts to recover private area in the Address Space (e.g. weekly). Client has suggested we close this problem pending re-ocurrence.
